A cosmetic pedicure is meant to improve the comfort, the aesthetics of the nails and the appearance of the skin of the feet. It is a very practical treatment, especially when the feet are dry and the nails need work.
There are, however, situations in which a beauty salon should not replace a podiatrist, dermatologist or doctor. The safety of the feet is more important than styling.
When does a cosmetic pedicure make sense?
- when the feet need aesthetic work on the nails
- with dry skin and a need for smoothing
- before a holiday, the summer season or an important occasion
- as regular care when there are no disease changes
- when the client wants to combine care with polish or a hybrid
When to refer to a specialist?
Pain, weeping, strong redness, swelling, suspected fungal infection, an ingrown nail, wounds, bleeding cracks, warts, diabetes with foot problems or sensory disorders require a medical or podiatry consultation. We do not cover up a problem with polish.
With suspected nail fungus, styling can worsen the situation or delay treatment, which is why diagnosis is needed first.
Hygiene and tools
A safe pedicure requires clean, properly disinfected or sterilised tools, careful work with the cuticles and giving up aggressive cutting. The cuticles have a protective function, so disturbing them increases the risk of infection.
Hybrid or classic pedicure?
A hybrid pedicure works well when you want a durable colour. A pedicure with polish may be better if you want lighter styling or need a break from a hybrid. With a damaged plate, we choose the decision carefully.
Well-cared-for feet are not just nail colour. They are also comfort, hygiene and the ability to recognise when cosmetics should give way to treatment.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a cosmetic and a podiatric pedicure?
A cosmetic pedicure takes care of the appearance and comfort of healthy feet. A podiatric one deals with problems such as ingrown nails, calluses or fungal infection and has a therapeutic character.
How often should a pedicure be done?
Usually every few weeks, depending on how fast the nails grow and on the condition of the skin. In summer and with dry skin the frequency tends to be higher.
