After the age of 40, the skin usually needs more conscious care: it regenerates more slowly, loses hydration more easily and reacts more strongly to UV radiation. A well-built plan is not about multiplying cosmetics, but about consistency, protection and matching the ingredients to the skin’s real needs.

The most important step: daily SPF protection

A broad-spectrum filter with SPF 30 or higher should be a permanent part of the morning routine. With longer time outdoors it needs reapplying, especially after sweating or contact with water. This is the basis of preventing photoageing, discolouration and uneven tone.

Introduce retinoids slowly

Retinol and other retinoids can support epidermal renewal, an improvement in skin texture and the appearance of fine lines, but they require patience. It is safest to start with a low frequency, for example 1-2 times a week in the evening, watching for dryness, stinging and peeling. With pregnancy, breastfeeding, dermatological therapy or very sensitive skin, it is worth discussing care with a specialist first.

Antioxidants and hydration

Vitamin C, niacinamide, ceramides, hyaluronic acid and squalane are ingredients that fit well into mature skincare. In the morning, antioxidant formulas under SPF work well, and in the evening, regeneration of the hydrolipid barrier. If the skin is reactive, it is better to introduce one new product at a time.

Salon treatments as support for the plan

In the salon you can work on hydration, tension and the structure of the skin. At Studio AP, for such needs we choose, among others, Neauvia Hydro Deluxe mesotherapy, Dermapen or the PRX-T33 medical peel. The scope always depends on the condition of the skin, the contraindications and whether the skin is currently prepared for stronger procedures.

A simple plan to start

When to ease off active ingredients?

After the age of 40, the skin does not always need a stronger stimulus. If stinging, peeling, redness or a feeling of tightness appears, it is better to return to barrier regeneration for a few days and only later reintroduce a retinoid or acids. With discolouration, dermatological therapy or very reactive skin, the plan should be more cautious and spread over time.

If you do not know which ingredients and treatments will be best for your skin, start with a cosmetology consultation. It is the shortest route to a plan that is effective but does not overload the skin.
